Afflicted Inc.
Afflicted, Inc. is a visual homage to Tim Burton (The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride will forever hold special places in my heart). My fascination with mental illness continues to inspire my writing, and the result is the personified afflictions you see above. I'm so grateful that Greg Aronowitz came on board. It was him, Red 5, and Alison that did the make up so beautifully. Without the work of Barnyard FX, this short wouldn't be half as good, since it all relied on the compelling aspect of the visuals.
This short film was the beginning of my fascination with special effects make up. After releasing Afflicted, I decided to have my directing style incorporate the use of make up to heighten whatever world the characters were in. When Megan wrote Here She Is, short film #5, I put the characters in a fantasy world with avant garde faces and highly stylized looks. Since film is a visual medium, why not have everything in your frame add to the message of the story?
