Miss Earth
Set 1,000 years in the future, Miss Earth chronicles beauty queen Victoria Young as she competes for the fate of our planet in Galactic's depopulation pageant.
Miss Earth was done in collaboration with Ron Howard & Brian Grazer's company New Form Digital. It was by far the biggest production I'd done to date, with a crew of anywhere from 30+ each day. Over half of the day would be devoted to make up, and we could only have 1 or 2 actors in full make up at the time, while others wore stunt masks.
I found both directing and acting especially difficult with Miss Earth, as well as the technical challenges of getting coverage for the actors. It was one of the most stressful sets I'd ever run, but I learned so many invaluable lessons as a director and producer. Ultimately, I'm proud of this simply existing. Greg did beautiful work, and I'm so happy that I got to do a science fiction comedy immersed in an entirely new universe.
